Inspiration for TopSpeakingDocs passes away
Washington, DC
Wednesday, June 30, 2010
Michael Madison Griffiths, 20, the son of Ellen and Michael Griffiths passed away on Friday June 25, 2010 at his home from complications related to a long standing liver ailment. Michael (Mikey, Mike) was a junior at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia majoring in Economics. This summer he was taking courses for his pre-med requirements at University of Maryland-Baltimore County. He was a graduate of St. Ann's Academy in the Tenleytown area of D.C. and St. John's College High School also in the District. When their youngest son was first diagnosed with liver problems, Dr. Griffiths and his wife searched the whole country for specialists who could provide the best care for their son. The Griffiths' became increasingly frustrated when they were unable to find satisfactory treatments in the states for Mikey. Eventually, they were able to contact an international specialist who was able to implement various innovative treatments that saved their son's life. From that experience, Dr. Griffiths was concerned about the way information was shared across the globe. Luckily enough he had the means and knowledge to scour the globe to find the assistance his son needed. What about those who did not have those resources? In the fall of 2006, Dr. Griffiths launched TopSpeakingDocs, a knowledge transference platform that is intended to eliminate the barriers that prevent the free flow of information, with his son serving as his inspiration. Michael's interests and leadership were exhibited in many ways. He served in the Cadet Corps obtaining the rank of Second Lieutenant and participating and winning several awards at the Junior Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Summer Camp at Fort Hood, Virginia in 2005. He went on to participate in the varsity wrestling program and other clubs and organizations including Jack and Jill of America. Michael was the youngest of three children. His lifelong battle with liver ailment was an inspiration to his whole family and all who knew him. He will be sorely missed, but his memory will live on in the form of TopSpeakingDocs.
