Somewhere between self-publishing and a traditional book deal lies an opportunity for experts to have an outstanding book at an affordable price in a matter of just a few weeks…and get published alongside some of the most well-known icons in personal development. The Las Vegas Convention Speakers Bureau is publishing the third and final edition of their outstanding anthology series, "The Power of the Platform" and is currently seeking just four more experts to complete the book. Do you have what it takes to join these icons?
The series boasts such personal development experts as Jack Canfield, co-creator of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series and author of "The Success Principles"; Brian Tracy - a self-help guru and author of more than forty books; Les Brown - "America's Favorite Motivational Speaker"; Keith Ferrazzi – author of "Never Eat Alone" and "Who's Got Your Back?"; and "The Secret's" Marci Shimoff, author of "Happy For No Reason," as well as other experts from all areas of personal development, growth, self-help, and business.
The first two editions, sub-titled "Speakers on Success" and "Speakers on Purpose" will be rounded out by the third edition, "Speakers on Life." The books each offer twenty chapters on motivation, inspiration, and business how-to. Motivational speakers, authors, attorneys, doctors, coaches, and consultants have come together in this series to share their messages with readers from all over the world.
Many of the coauthors have had to overcome terrific adversities to find their success. Carlos Rey lost his furniture business to the devastation of Hurricane Andrew. Robbie Chaney was widowed at just thirty-two, left to raise her three children alone. Dr. Nick Hall shared his technique for "taming the alligators in your life."
Topics in these books go beyond overcoming adversity. Many of the messages help readers to live their best life ever – and include the keys to success, improving communication, finding your life's purpose, how to think like a champion, tips for becoming an effective leader, and even discovering the secrets to happiness. Readers will understand how to make the right life choices with regard to their relationships and careers.
With a traditional publishing deal, authors typically purchase their books at fifty percent off the cover price. If they had the help of an agent to broker their deal with the publisher, that agent gets fifteen percent of everything the author sells. Traditional publishing deals also tend to move slowly, often taking a year from start to publication.
Self-publishing is bigger than ever, but many experts who want to have a book have no idea what is involved or how to get started. Between the time it takes to write a book of 50,000 words or more, edit it, typeset it, and then pursue all the business aspects – from Library of Congress registration to purchasing bar codes, the self-published author still has to deal with the distribution and marketing of their work.
Robin Jay, president of the Las Vegas Convention Speakers Bureau, knows first-hand about the challenges associated with publishing. She originally self-published her first book, "The Art of the Business Lunch: Building Relationships Between 12 and 2", and then later sold her book to a traditional publisher. She says she now has the "privilege" of buying her own work from her publisher at fifty percent off cover price, or $7.50 per book. The book sells for just $14.99, so she earns less than half the cover price when she sells the books directly; after all, she has to pay her shipping costs, as well. This experience made her extremely sympathetic to other writers and experts who would like to have a book but who don't know where to begin or what it might ultimately cost them.
Jay says, "I've contributed to other anthologies, including 'Chicken Soup for the Wine Lover's Soul,' and in doing so, I discovered the absolute easiest way to get published is by contributing to an anthology. With an anthology, the writers simply compose a chapter. The publisher does all the rest. Then, a few weeks later, VOILA! You have a wonderful book that's ready to sell. Your message will reach readers who otherwise might never know you exist! The Power of the Platform books have coauthors from as far away as Australia and Singapore, and as close as Canada, Florida, and Boston. To be published along side of such legendary speakers as Jack Canfield, Brian Tracy, and Les Brown also helps to define the coauthors as experts in their field."
"I have experienced what it takes to get a book to market and it's a daunting task," says Jay. "While the actual cost to print a book has come down considerably thanks to digital offset printing, most aspiring writers are still naïve about what it takes to get a book published. This is why I created 'The Power of the Platform' anthology series. I wanted to help aspiring authors, motivational speakers, and experts from all walks – life coaches, consultants, doctors, lawyers and anyone who has a vital message to share or who wants to promote themselves to the public – to be able to get published easily, quickly, and affordably."
"I currently have just four more chapters available in 'Speakers on Life', which will be the final edition of the three-part series. The speakers bureau business is busier than ever and I need to be free to pursue other projects at this time," shares Jay. "If you have always dreamed of becoming a published author…or if you have a special message to share with audiences everywhere, then please contact me as soon as possible. This will be the last opportunity to become a coauthor in such a prestigious series." The Power of the Platform coauthors will also get the e-book editions to sell and a listing on the bureau Web site as added value.
