herb@herbgross.com At 60+ I Drive A Hot Rod Hearse and Play In A Rock Band.
•For the past 30+ years I've had my own advertising and TV production business.
•During the 60's I was lead singer in a band called
The Invictas. There were fan clubs; police escorts, and our hit record "
The Hump" shocked parents. The band traveled in a black 55 Cadillac hearse.
•In 2005 I visited our drummer, sat in with a local band and had a Blues Brothers moment. I concluded that we had to put the band back together!
•After months of practice, three of the four original band members, all in their 60's, reunited as
Herb Gross and The Invictas.
•Four years ago I purchased a 1984 hot rod Cadillac hearse from an emergency room doctor. I invested in rebuilding the engine, custom paint, chrome wheels, bucket seats, brass knuckles on the gearshift, red scull on the hood, back seat and bar, yellow lettering on the sides and more. It is an attention getter.
•We affectionately call our set of wheels
The Big Caddy Hearse. We recorded a song about the hearse, put a video on You Tube and play the song at events.
•Since reuniting the band, we have played with the Beach Boys, been on TV and rocked thousands at festivals and events.
•The Invictas are based in Rochester NY, and I travel from Charlotte, NC to join the group.
•Upcoming gigs include a Class of 74 High School Reunion on Saturday July 18, 2009, and a Class of 69 Reunion on Friday July 24th. Both are in Rochester, NY.
•Today an original copy of our 60's album entitled
The Invictas A Go Go sells for hundreds of dollars on eBay. A single copy of The Hump can sell for over $50.
•Events are called
The Rock Till Ya Drop Tour. We have a book, song and web site with the same name.
•"Band members have agreed to play as long as we are having fun. We feature Hump dance contest at our gigs." says Herb.
