A new consumer guide explains several important gaps in Medicare coverage and long-term care planning alternatives.

"Changes in the Medicare program are surprising a growing number of seniors with significant bills they didn't expect and often can't afford," explains Jesse Slome, director of the National Advisory Center for Short-Term Care Information (NAC-STCi).  Slome authored the just-published "The Essential Guide to Short-Term Care Insurance Protection" which can be read on the Advisory Center's website.

"In addition, many seniors who want to do some long-term care planning find that their age, the cost of long-term care insurance or their health poses a problem," Slome adds.   "We produced this guide to educate people about short-term care insurance which can provide benefits for home health care, assisted living facility care and skilled nursing home stays."

"There is almost no awareness of the issues or available planning options," Slome notes. Individuals interested in reading The Essential Guide To Short-Term Care Insurance Protection can access it via the Center's website www.shorttermcareinsurance.org.  No sign-in or personal information is required.

The American Association for Long Term Care Insurance (www.aaltci.org) is the national trade organization focused on educating individuals about the importance of planning for the risk of long term care.  The American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance (www.medicaresupp.org( focuses on Medigap industry issues and helps link consumers with Medicare Supplement agents.  The National Advisory Center for Short Term Care was established in 2015 to build awareness for the important role short term care insurance plays in protecting seniors.
