Here’s an important article about the Lariat device for closing off the left atrial appendage. Back in March, we reported from the American College of Cardiology that Dr. Natale’s group had reported finding that about one-fourth of Lariat patients had leaks, some with bad results such as strokes. This new article tells of the experience of our friend Shannon Dickson who had the Lariat device and subsequently had a leak and a stroke. It also talks about how the Lariat device is FDA-approved for suturing, but not for atrial fibrillation stroke prevention.
