Los Angeles, CA - October 6, 2015 - November is National Long Term Care Awareness Month an opportunity to focus on the topic that is still unfamiliar to most Americans.

"We first established the month in 2001 with the single goal of encouraging more people to think about the issue of long term care," explains Jesse Slome, director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance (AALTCI).   "We specifically left out the word insurance because this is a problem facing all Americans and insurance is only one part of the discussion and solution."

Slome explained that Long Term Care Awareness Month first began as a weeklong event dedicated to creating awareness.   "Turned out folks needed more time so the event was expanded to a full month," Slome adds.  "Since then the month has been recognized by Congress and a number of Governors and even Mayors have declared November as a month to focus on the issue."

AALTCI notes that millions of Americans are impacted by long-term care needs.  "It may be for an aging parent, a spouse or even a child, friend or relative," Slome notes.  "There is a financial toll as well as an emotional one that impacts those who need care and the millions of Americans who provide care often without pay."
