Well-Known "Care Navigator" Highlights Global Epidemic for Disabled and Their Caregivers

Some view Pamela Wilson's life as tragic—she lost two siblings, both parents and nearly all aunts, uncles, and grandparents by the time she turned 38. She didn't sit back and feel sorry for herself; instead, she learned from each family member's passing and is now educating others on how to navigate the right solutions for their life's changes.

As a long-time caregiving advocate, care navigator, and caregiving educator, Pamela D. Wilson CSA, MS, BS/BA, CG has personally helped thousands of family and professional caregivers. She has personally lived through the experiences of family caregivers and the older adults she serves today. In doing so, however, Wilson has uncovered that minimum standards of care in the healthcare and aging industry are unacceptable and that advocacy is critical to achieve better than average care in the healthcare and elder services industries. Her new book, The Caregiving Trap: Solutions for Life's Unexpected Changes, arms caregivers with the knowledge to advocate on behalf of their loved one and provides advice on how the caregiver can maintain a healthy lifestyle, too.

Wilson educates and speaks to family and professional caregivers with an openness and authenticity about caregiving that warms and inspires. Wilson can discuss during an interview:

  • The increasing personal and financial obligations resulting from the role of caregiving
  • That caregivers must set boundaries to preserve health and well-being
  • The right questions that should be asked of healthcare professionals by caregivers so they don't unknowingly agree to care that may not be in the best interest of the care recipient
  • Memory loss goes undiagnosed for years until a crisis situation or event occurs resulting in the provision of care
  • Admitting a love-hate relationships caregivers often feel for loved ones
  • How to avoid caregiver burnout and control issues
  • The personal and financial risks to women who become caregivers

Pamela D. Wilson, MS, BS/BA, CG, CSA, Certified Senior Advisor specializes in working with family and professional caregivers to navigate healthcare and aging concerns. Wilson, an expert in the field of caregiving, has personally helped thousands of family and professional caregivers since 2000 in her career as an advocate, a care navigator, and an educator. She was producer and host of The Caring Generation®, from 2009 to 2011, an educational radio program for caregivers on 630 KHOW-AM.  In addition to her work at the Care Navigator, Pamela gives back to the community by serving as chairperson of the Community Ethics Committee in Denver, Colorado.
