A successful retirement doesn't happen all by itself, but it can occur if you plan wisely for it. Geared to women in their forties and fifties, the newly published book, Not Your Mother's Retirement; Secrets for Today's Women to Live Fully During the Best Years of Life, is a user-friendly resource for baby boomer women planning for the future while they still have enough time to do it.

The book, edited by Mark Chimsky, contains 20 fun and inspiring essays by more than 20 notable retirement experts, including Boston-area Retirement Coach Dorian Mintzer, Sally Abrahms, Sara Zeff, Geber, Marci Alboher, Julie Janson, and more. The book provides practical tools and information and covers such key areas as housing, health, travel, finances, work, volunteering, being single, finding community, and staying active.

Mintzer's chapter, called, "Thinking Ahead…What's Next?"  reveals how to begin preparing for a meaningful retirement, and the many rewarding options available to baby boomer women. The concept of retirement in changing and will continue to change in the 21st century. She states that many women no longer want to live their husband's retirement dream—and want their own dream. The challenge is to get to know yourself and what's important to you, have important conversations with whoever is significant in your life whether it be a spouse, partner, family or friends, and to build a community of supports so you know who you can count on in the years ahead. 

Mintzer, M.S.W., Ph.D., B.C.C. (Board Certified Coach) has written about many topics pertaining to graceful aging. She speaks to professional and community groups. As a coach, she helps 50-to-70 something women, men, and couples reinvent themselves in the next stage of life. She's the founder of the Boomers and Beyond Special Interest Group for interdisciplinary professionals, and the 4th Tuesday Revolutionize your Retirement Interview Series for professionals and the public. She is co-author of The Couple's Retirement Puzzle: 10 Must- Have Conversations for Creating an Amazing New Life Together (August 2014) and has also contributed to 70 Things to Do When You Turn 70; Six Secrets For a Happy Retirement; Remarkable and Real; Making Marriage a Success; Live Smart after 50!, 65 Things to do When you Retire, The Six Secrets to a Happy Retirement and 65 Things to do When you Retire: Travel.

Mintzer combines her personal and professional experiences as a therapist, coach, teacher and speaker with her expertise in adult development and life planning as she works to help people navigate the second half of life.
