How Houston's Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign Began The seed for the infidelity expert Ruth Houston's
Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign took root 11 years ago, when during the course of her ongoing infidelity research, Houston stumbled across information linking infidelity and Valentine's Day.
"I was interviewing a private investigator about infidelity and he casually mentioned that Valentine's Day was the busiest time of the year for himself and other colleagues who specialized in infidelity investigations. "
As an infidelity expert, Houston was intrigued by his comment, and upon further research found that very little had been written about the connection between infidelity and Valentine's Day.
Houston, a journalist with a background in public relations, approached scores of media outlets and challenged them to include at least one story on the side of Valentine's Day no one wants to talk about.
She recalls the first Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign:
"Most media outlets were reluctant to deviate from their usual Valentine's stories about gifts to buy and romantic things to do. But recognizing that infidelity is an issue that affects a significant portion of the population, many media outlets rose to the challenge and ran stories about the link between infidelity and Valentine's Day or stories on how to catch a cheating mate on the most romantic day of the year."
"Each year an ever-increasing number of media outlets are doing stories on this seldom-discussed side of Valentine's Day, which gives the public a more balanced view of this popular holiday. "
