When the Internet has developed as a potential earning vehicle, people have put up websites and blogs to try out their luck in the online business industry. They have started searching for opportunities on how to make money off a blog and a website. Content is also given very high regard as it is considered to be the top of all the tools that can be used in running the online venture. With this, two forms of writing are also established: articles and blog posts.

Most people find confusion with these writing forms and use the terms interchangeably. While some would argue that they are one and the same, others assert that they have obvious differences. Hence, one must clearly define and draw a line between the two.

An article is an extensive piece of writing aimed at explaining a topic in great detail, usually written from an expert's point of view. They are created to uphold the author's proficiency and competency at writing and research. Most often proper, structured, and objective, an article calls for greater research as it should contain verifiable information. It must be written in a flawless language and may also refer to source information or directly quote authorities. While the writer's opinion about the topic is often not immediately evident and is not directly addressed to the reader, they are more likely to be written in the third person.

On the other hand, a blog post is a shorter form of writing done with the goal of sharing valuable information to its readers. Blog posts are considered casual, conversational, and highly opinionated- overall, informally written so readers can generally expect a more relaxed expression. Moreover, a blog post may be written in second person to encourage reader participation through comments and reactions.

A blog post may take only one subject and explain it concisely within a few paragraphs. There may be multiple perspectives to expand the comprehension of the reader, but it usually discusses a theme that is only constantly evolving. Likewise, a blog is also a great place to bring more of the blogger's character into business communication as to give the readers a preview of the venture and its events.

Contrary to this particular characteristic of a blog post, articles can vary in length and are designed to be written out for leisurely reading. Some resourcefully written articles are created in such a reasonable manner that it could already be considered authoritative on the field it discusses. This can hold true by the very fact that a strong and thorough research backs up the facts that the article contains. The article writer also tries to distinguish personality from the plain facts so the content is more formal in tone.

Blog posts are utterly suitable for those who want to know how to make money off a blog. They are easy to compose and customers will understand better how it is made to promote something like a product or service. This can be a very easy way to generate income as it also relates well to fields of advertising,

sponsorship, affiliate programs, and sales. This is why so many people get to maximize their earning potential through blogging.

Articles are just as fit for websites with earning goals. Although, people would tend to be more wary when they come across a formal article than when they see a blog. They would have higher expectations on its credibility and authority. Therefore, articles are great for information-sharing and proper news dissemination. But for advertising and marketing purposes, they may be a little bit off.

Blog posts and articles can indeed overlap especially for those who are simply looking for ways on how to make money off a blog. But, as experts agree, there must be a fine distinction. All articles can be blog posts, but not all blog posts may be turned to articles depending on the manner with which they are written. Ultimately, the distinction depends on the definition given by the person using the terms. Though potentially confusing, some websites find it valuable to use the terms to differentiate the types of content they offer on their site, whether just for internal purposes or to share with their target audience.
