John Harris Company Founder and President - The son of a schoolteacher and a federal government employee, John Harris grew up on a dairy farm in rural South Carolina. He attended Carlisle Military School in Bamberg, South Carolina, where he played basketball and baseball, developed his leadership skills, and graduated as Salutatorian of his class. Continuing his education, he worked full time while attending the University of South Carolina, graduating cum laude with a degree in history and political science in 1976. He went on to earn his master's in accounting in 1977. Harris' first post-college job was as a staff accountant at Haskins & Sells, CPAs (now Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu) in Charlotte, North Carolina. Following a 13-month stint there, he worked for an insurance company, then bought his first business, an asphalt paving company.
Harris opened his accounting practice in Charleston in 1996. The following year, he transformed that firm to JK Harris & Company, focusing on tax representation. His goal was to build the nation's largest tax representation firm, and today JK Harris & Company is estimated to be 10 times the size of its nearest competitor.
John (JK) Harris is the author of Flashpoint: Seven Core Strategies for Rapid-Fire Business Growth (Entrepreneur Press, 2010), and the recently published Sales Flashpoint: Fifteen Strategies for Rapid-Fire Sales Growth, co-authored with Richard. D. Dickerson. Though he remains President of JK Harris & Company, he has created Flashpoints Consulting, LLC, through which he delivers his public speaking and consulting services.
