Richard M. Patton, Fire Protection Engineer, realized years ago that fire codes and "certifications" for fire related products and systems were often oriented to benefit those who profited from fire at the expense of the consumer. For example, fire sprinkler systems are regulated by code to be priced at two to four times as much as a properly engineered system would cost. To create a market for smoke detectors costing one dollar to manufacture and selling for ten dollars up, "certification tests" were falsified and codes were rigged to hide an excess of a 50 percent failure rate. Patton exposes fire related frauds and aids those being harmed by the system.
