Companies that recognize, adapt and respond to the realities of the new generational workforce called Gen Y?or Millennials, are the one?s that will be best poised to succeed in the future according to the findings from fresh, extensive insights from research conducted during the summer of 2008 by Mark Holmes and Bette Price for their GenBlending(sm) joint venture project.

Based on surveys, one-on-one interviews, focus groups and behavioral and values assessments, the GenBlending(sm) project finds that misunderstood stereo-type thinking may be the most damaging deterrent for today?s managers in hiring, developing and maintaining their talent for the future. Understanding the ?why? behind the generation?s attitudes is critical to motivating and leveraging their talents and potential.

A few of the preliminary findings are:
  • 88% want a supervisor they can trust
  • 89% want to have their ideas heard
  • More than half want to know they contribute to an overall outcome
  • 86% want challenging, rewarding work
  • 82 % would leave if their boss failed to value their opinions or ideas
  • 73% do not want to be micromanaged
  • 80% want flexibility in their work schedules
Taking these findings purely on the surface fails to create deeper understanding. It?s the ?why? that provides important insights and solutions that will make the difference as senior leaders prepare their companies for growth?even survival?going forward.

Price and Holms provide valuable insights from this important perspective.
