Human trafficking is a crime against humanity. It is the buying and selling of human beings that involves recruiting, transporting, transferring, harboring or receiving a person through the use of force, coercion or other means for the purpose of exploiting.

The most common form of human trafficking in the United States is commercial sexual exploitation. Traffickers are commonly referred to as pimps, and they coerce youth to enter the sex industry through the use of a variety of recruitment and control mechanisms in strip clubs, street-based prostitution and escort services. American pimps particularly target vulnerable youth, such as runaways and the homeless. The average age of entry into prostitution in the U.S. is 12 to 14 years old.

Revolt: (v.) to fight, to rise up against the injustice of commercial sexual exploitation of women and children with purchasing power.

We have an immense problem that requires an even bigger solution. The symbol of our American flag declares that modern day slavery is not welcome; and freedom is every human being?s right. We the people, of the United States of America, can no longer ignore the fundamental rights of every human being. The time is now to stand up, like a flag visible for traffickers to see, and declare that democracy and modern day slavery cannot co-exist.

Join Ateba's Shoe Revolt as she fights with shoes to end the injustice that is human trafficking. Writing an editorial about Ateba or Shoe Revolt will help spread the word that each victim of sex trafficking is not to be ignored and forgotten, but has an undeniable right to freedom.
